SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced Wednesday its 2009 football television schedule which includes 21 live broadcasts and at least 20 games streamed live on the Internet through the league’s web channel, SoCon.TV.
Highlighting the schedule is the SoCon’s eight-game SoCon Saturdays package on SportSouth which includes eight football games and features all nine conference schools. Former Super Bowl participant and coach Sam Wyche joins play-by-play announcer Tom Werme in the SportSouth booth for their third season together on the SoCon Saturdays package, which kicks off on Sept. 19 as Georgia Southern hosts Western Carolina at 7 p.m.
The 2008 conference champion, Appalachian State, and runner-up Wofford each make three SoCon Saturdays appearances this season. The two teams will meet Oct. 17 in Spartanburg as the Terriers look to avenge last season’s defeat in Boone.
In addition to the SportSouth schedule, WMYA-TV “My40” (Greenville-Spartanburg-Asheville-Anderson) will feature five live broadcasts this season, three of which are league games. WMYA’s parent station, WLOS-TV ABC 13, will broadcast the Furman-Appalachian State tilt on Oct. 31.
League teams will also make appearances on Big Ten Network, Bright House Sports Network, Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), Fox Sports Network (pay-per-view) and networks yet to be determined as part of the Southeastern Conference’s television package.
Of the 21 live broadcasts, 12 are conference match-ups, and at least one game will be televised in each of the 12 weeks of the regular season.
In addition to the television broadcasts, SoCon.TV, the league’s web channel that debuted in 2005, will show at least 20 live football games in 2009. To learn more about subscription options for SoCon.TV and to see a complete schedule, visit SoConSports.com.
