Look, maybe I’m judging a little harsh on Chris Hatcher but he’s just not getting it done for GSU right now.  I sat there yesterday and watched the most pathetic display of an offense I do believe I’ve ever seen.  Now, NC has one of the top defenses in FBS .  but honestly, I don’t think there a top 5 defense.  At any rate, let’s look at why our offense struggled so terribly.  We ran 3 plays people…over…and over…and over….and over…and over…and over.  At some point, pretty much any defensive coordinator at any level of football will get it figured out.

I have a lot of beefs with Chris Hatcher, maybe some of you disagree with me.  First off, I don’t like the extremely small players he is recruiting.  Come on, he’s signing defensive ends that are like 6’0/225 lbs.  Even at a decent high school level, you won’t find a DE that small.  That’s a LB size at best.  2nd, our players just never seem prepared as the other team.   Just about every game I’ve seen this season, we look a little lost at times.  3rd, he can’t even live up to his own words.  Remember what he said when he made his first public announcement, something to the sort of make no mistake, we’ll get back to championship football and do it quickly.  Did anyone catch the score of that SD game?  Championship football?  Hardly.  Even the teams we have beaten aren’t even that good this year.  The only team that’s even won more than 1 game is Albany but their competition is not that great.  Look, my question for you is, if we still had Sewak and still ran the triple option, do you think we would be have the same record.  I don’t, and I think we would have beaten NC too.  Matter of fact, I think we would be undefeated right now because the teams we’ve played thus far just aren’t that good.  At any rate, i’m sure there will be those who disagree with me.  However, my patience is beginning to run thin with this “Hatch Attack”

You right about somethings but I think Wfford is off this year becuase of 5-8 starters getting hurt and out for this season.

The problem with our offense is it is too one deminsional. Th easy to defend. We only have maybe 3-4 offensive formations. I believe UNC was preparing for the pick 6 on Sunday before the game while watching film and it just a little time to get chapples timing down. Theoption might not be a bad choice but a well rounded offens a liitle power, a little spread and some finese.

And athelete is on the fence between GT and WoffordJRXRS

I echo what many others have said. I really hope that Chris Hatcher can pull it all together. He seems to be a great guy, and, if he can coach here successfully, I hope he sticks around for a while.

However, here is the problem as I see it. When we ran the option we could recruit guys from high school that were running the option, and wanted to stay in an option offense in college. With GSU being one of the few colleges running the option we could pick up real talent.

Now our offense is no different than any other team in southeast, and if you are any good, you are most likely going to go one of the countless FBS schools that run offenses similar to ours before you ever consider coming to GSU.

A gimicky offense served us well for years, and I think that to return to our former glory we need to go back to that. With Paul Johnson recruiting for the option, I think we have missed the boat on returning to an option offense as he is going to get the best players (Just look at how Wofford has fallen off this year. I bet Georgia Tech had a major role in taking their recruits). But there are other offenses out there that we should explore, and soon.

I agree.. this is the nature of the game. A guy comes in promises to restore us back to our dominance and then fails..You move on. How much time do we have to wait. Are people really ok with waiting on Lee to become a senior. Really..I mean really. Eagleman was very right, where is our attrition. I want Hatch to come out and prove me wrong. I want him to start this Saturday and run the table. I want he to get us into the playoffs. However, judging from the way our offense played last year (which was substantially better than this year) and the way we are playing this year, I am not sure if he can.

I was on GSUfan.com and they had the stats of everyone on the offense up there. 18 total turnovers that are the worst. Some of our offensive numbers are not that bad except for Chapels’ td/int ratio. Is anyone expecting a transformation when the coach is quoted as saying "we just aren’t any good" "offensively, we can't score" " it will take a miracle for us to win at Chapel Hill"

We have turned into a football team that is constantly looking for positives in our loses..That cannot go on forever. I do not want a BVG experience again where he just focused on our miscues and nobody wanted to play for him. But come on. I am optimistic and really want to win these last five games. Chatt, App St., Cit, Samford, and Furman. It has turned into a second half season for us and I want nothing better than to run the Gantlet and go playoff bound. In order to do that, we are going to have to regain the chip on our shoulder that we carried for so many years.

Because I criticize Hatch doesn't mean I want him to fail. This is that chip if he cannot make the cut, then all I am saying is that we need someone who can..I am not waiting 5 years for it either.

There's a line between being cocky and being confident in yourself. That's what we pushed. You're Georgia Southern. You're supposed to win so don't be surprised when you do.

therealtrueblue- I think anyone with any sense would know that if you're on this forum, then obviously you care about the GSU program. Now Duckboot said he only follows GSU because of his love for Rusty Russell so I'm not sure why he is here, but the rest of us I'll bet will stick with them through thick and thin. So when you get some idiot saying that you hope Hatcher fails, the rest of us know better.

Maybe I'm wrong on Hatcher's recruiting, but it seemed in the past, we were always able to snag a few big names and those are the ones who wound up carrying the team. I'm not wowed by any of the guys Hatcher brings in. At this point, Hatcher should have his guys in place and this thing ought to be turned around.

As far as the continued support for Hatcher, there will be those who will support him no matter what and soon enough, there will be those who grow tired of losing. I just hope Baker is man enough to admit his mistake, get the division 2 coaches and high school coaches off the sidelines and go get us some real coaches.

Wow...I never said nor have I read anywhere that I want Hatcher to fail. If you are going to comment ona blog, maybe you should read it. Eagle man...very accurate. I just do not think that Hatch is going to be able to function at this leve. Is it so hard to look around and see that the App States, Richmonds, Vill, SDS..they have bigger guys. Last year I was not upset with the way we played. We lost what 5 games by a total of 6 points. Since I do know my program, and I do know that we have been playing with freshmen and sophmores, I thought wow, Hatch might be onto something. However, he could not take how well that inexperienced team played and grow off on that. My point is that we are going backwards and we do not have a recruiting base. We have to be more aggressive on that front. EagleMan01 you could not be more accurate. Wesley..I am not sure what everyones problem is on here. How much time would everyone like to give Chris in a divison that they are bad mouthing. What program would this kind of performance last in. I know football, I am not an expert, but I do expect my coach to move the program forward and build and not go backwards. It is the nature of the job

EagleMan you're right about the recruiting. Hatcher is recruiting much smaller players and at some positions, you can get by with that but when you're recruiting DLmen who are only 220 lbs, you're going to have a problem stuffing the run. It's not rocket science. I'm interested to see how the rest of the season goes but to be honest, I'm not expecting much. This is Hatcher's 3rd season. 3 seasons is enough time to get your personnel in and get things turned around..unless you're paul johnson and it doesn't take even 1 season :)

Hatcher led the team to a 7-4 record is first year, a 6-5 last and we're playing .500 ball with a lot of good teams left to play this season. I'm just not seeing improvement and my faith in him has dwindled.

I agree Hatcher should be done after this season, but I don't see that happening. I think Sam gives him at least another if not more and this program will continue to suffer unfortunately.

Here's a question about attrition...

What happened to the guy:

Ricky Ponton * RB * 5-11, 215 * Tampa, FL (Hillsborough/South Florida)

He played at south florida and transferred to GSU last year..He had 2 years eligibility remaining...he's not even on the team this year...

Got to GSUfans.com and take a look at the differnece in the size and skill of the recruiting class from 2000 to the recruiting class of 2009...It's disappointing...

Oh boy,you guys are funny...and quite ridiculous...I think everyone on this blog has a vested interest in GSU and deserves the right to their own repective opinion...No point in calling people idiots or stupid...none. However, let's be honest with ourselves folks. Hatcher has been there for years...and he really has done anything. Yes he is playing with mostly freshman and sophomores...so what does that tell you? Where are the juniors and seniors? That tells me that there is a problem with attrition. Why? That's the question we should be asking ourselves. Basically, Hatcher has been playing freshman and sophomores his entire tenure at GSU...they said the same thing last year. Bottom line is he is a D2 level coach that wasn't quite ready to step up. But Sam Baker had everyone believing that he was going to be the next Messiah, because Van Gorder completely screwed him with no vaseline. So to save face he had to come up with someone quick. So now that dust has settled and we are three years in the making, GSU has not gained any prominence...and to shut us up even further, ol Baker decides to throw in a feasibility study...like we really stand a chance in the FBS with the way things are going. The problem starts in the front office folks. Yes, Hatcher and his staff are doing a terrible job,but Baker is the one that put all this in motion. The best thing Sam has done in a long time is get C-Y to coach men's basketball...I agree with one of the posts earlier..Where the hell are they recruiting? We need to widen the base and see what/who is out there. We may even need to hit a few JUCO's and look for FBS transfers to get the program's footing back on track so we can rebuild our name and make GSU more attractive to more talented players. But as long as Hatcher is at the helm, we won't win. Put it this way...Nick Saban has been at UA for 3 years. He came in to a pretty bad program...He won his first year there with what he had, then he recruited heavily and got the players he needed to make his system work. He got top notch coaches and talent and look where UA is in 3 short years. I'm not comparing UA to GSU because that is not fair. What I'm saying is...Get the right people in place to get the ball in motion and good things will happen. I think Hatcher should be done after this year...maybe one more...but that's it...

Eagle 1, this isn't high school football son. Coach Hatcher doesn't have time to listen to some fan voice his concerns and ESPECIALLY during the season. You obviously have no idea the preparation it takes from a coaching standpoint from week to week. Of course, from the looks of it, Hatcher might have plenty of time because we look awfully unprepared.

As far as me wanting Hatcher to fail, that's absurd and I've already said I want him to succeed even though I don't think it will ever happen.

Erk, you said you were tired of reading this stuff, yet it looks like you haven't read anything. "Even though I don't think he can get this thing turned around, I hope he does because I want us to get back to playing championship football" That was taken straight off one of my previous comments. I hope that clears some things up for you.

Wesley...you're ignorant. I am not telling you to change your career. If you are such an expert, then while you are watching the games and you SEE what the problems are...why don't you do something about it. Get in your car...drive to the coaches office and sit down and have a talk with Coach hatcher. otherwise all of your blogging does no good. and I agree with Erk Russell...what did Coach Hatcher do to you? Why do you and True Blue want him to fail so badly?

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!!
« ERK RUSSELL wrote on Monday, Oct 12 at 09:13 PM »
Just curious, why you want Coach Hatcher to fail so badly? What did he personally do to you? Why want him to lose every game for the rest of the season? You should be pulling for the Eagles to win each week!!! If you want Hatcher out so badly, then tell me what coach out there that is not from a D-2 school would even want to come to GSU to coach...just like all the rest of the players in this country that choose a D-1 school over a D-1AA. Let's get real here. I am probably the biggest GSU football fan on this blog, but we have to be realistic...it is tough to get players to come to GSU when they have the opportunity to go play at a bigger school. So again...tell me why you are pulling against hatcher, and the rest of the coaches, and also what did they personally do to you?

Eagle 1- I don't know if you don't understand the purpose of a "blog" or what, so I'll tell you. The purpose of a blog is to put forth ideas, concerns, information, etc. about whatever it is you're blogging about. I'm quite sure nobody on here is looking for a career change so you can stop attempting to invalidate our comments by making retarded comments like, "go submit an application if you're such an expert." It only shows a level of ignorance I can't even force myself to stoop to. It does not take an expert to see the problems. Just simply open your eyes and judge with a non-biased heart. It's hard to do, but you'll get the right answer when you do that.
« wesley_4024 wrote on Monday, Oct 12 at 09:04 PM »
Erk, I'm just wondering if you showed that same support to Brian Van Gorder when he was OUR COACH!!! I'm guessing not. Come on, because I don't think Hatcher is getting the job done I'm not a true fan? Please.

I am quite surprised to hear the support for Hatcher. I will keep a check on this for the rest of the season. I'm guessing after a few more losses, some of this tone will change. We'll see.

And like I told a previous poster, if you're tired of reading on this blog, then find another. Nobody is forcing you to read this. Jesus some of you people just don't get that.

Listen!!! I am so tired of reading all of this crap!!! Coach Hatcher and his coaching staff are doing a great job!! We need to continue to support them and the ALL of the EAGLE program...you can't just say you're going to support the players and not the coaches. Coach Hatcher is OUR COACH and if any of you don't like it...go find another team to support. Perhaps the Iowa State Cyclones!!!!!

Hey there OLE Wesley and True Blue...

It sounds like some one is a little riled up!!!

Why is that a stupid proposal that you go talk to the coach if you are such an expert? Seriously?!?!? All you do is breathe hot, smelly air of complaints but you don't want to take any action...Go figure!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!!!
« wesley_4024 wrote on Monday, Oct 12 at 08:50 PM »
therealtrueblue, you're exactly right. There are a lot of people who can't handle opposing opinions. The proof is in the pudding for us. All you have to do is look at is about 10 minutes of film to see there are real problems with this team, both offensively and defensively. Even though I don't think he can get this thing turned around, I hope he does because I want us to get back to playing championship football, and I at least hope that we can all agree on that...except for maybe Duckboot who isn't a GSU fan by his own admission(rusty russell fan).

Eagle 1, if you are tired of listening, then quit reading you idiot!!! I mean, this is my blog. If you'd rather not read my material, I don't really give a crap. I mean honestly, do you think I care? As far as me submitting my application to Chris Hatcher- that's a pretty stupid proposition so I'll just leave it at that. Again, if you don't want to read what's on this blog, move on. I doubt anyone will care.

The real true blue

if you are such a big contributor, I am sure that you know Coach hatcher personally and will have no problem going to his office and talking X's and O's with him. Since it sounds like you are an expert. Do you think that Coach Hatcher wants to be 2nd place? Who does like to loose? Week after week, Coach Hatcher does the best he can with the talent that he has. If you did truly know your team you know that the majority of the starters are freshmen and sophomores. That means 18 and 19 year old playing against 21 and 22 year olds.. It takes time my friend. His first year he was playing with all of VGD's players and won more games that he did. and he had a winning season last year. they are doing a great job this season. it takes time to fully and effectively implement a football program. If you don't like what coach hatcher is doing, be a man and quit hiding behind this blog and go talk to the man himself!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOO EAGLES!!!!!!!!!!
Post Your Stuff!!!
